Land of the Morning Calm – Day 2

I’m really, really scared to continue this post series about my travel to Korea because I’m afraid that I wouldn’t put it to justice. Words can never explain how truly wonderful the world (and God) is, the taste of fine and exotic cuisine in my mouth, how the freezing cold makes me want to run to the nearest fireplace. And all of it seems like an excellent dream, passing away through my fingers. If only I could relive each day, this time with the people who are special to me. 🙂

Enough about rambling, and on to the trip!

In my previous post, I left behind a cliffhanger pertaining to something about waking up. My roommate and I actually forgot to set our alarms one hour ahead (A BIG TRAVELLING NO NO!) so when my alarm woke us up at 6:00, it was actually 7 in the morning and check out starts at 8! We clearly don’t have time to shower, pack our things and eat breakfast.

So when we headed off to PhyongChang Phoenix Ski Resort, I could definitely eat a whole cow. But what we ate for lunch was definitely worth those long starving hours.

This dish is called Osam Bulgogi or Cuttlefish and Pork Barbecue which we ate in a restaurant near the resort called Myeongseng.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m terribly hungry but THIS DISH IS THE BEST I’VE EVER TASTED MY WHOLE LIFE. Asked for another helping of rice (with seaweed!!!) and another.. and another..

After lunch, we headed to the Phoenix Ski Resort, rented our BIG ASS ski boots that went up to my mid-calf and HEAVY skis that are longer than me. We actually had to WALK in those boots, ride an elevator while carrying those skis. I think I broke my back all of a sudden.

Friends and I looking adorbs in our ski gear!

I look like a pig. Or a sausage. A sausage-wrapped pig.

Well if you guys think that basketball, volleyball, or soccer is hard, wait ’til you guys get a shot at SKIING. Just attaching those damned shoes to the skis take a lot of work (and concentrated balance). Falling is definitely not optional, but a requirement. It’s definitely not fun if you don’t fall!

(By the way, I’m glad one of my friends, Jean Marie, didn’t suffer any major concussions after her, um, accident. 😦 I love you babe!)

Yay, look at me! Skiing is actually fun if we push around and just glide but the real challenge was learning how to STOP. And climb the steep hill. But I did it and managed to get a few bruises along the way!

For dinner, we went to Hanwoo Village and ate Pork Barbecue. It’s actually a specialty because they were served raw and we were in charge of cooking them according to our preferences. The pork was marinating in a special sauce and we ate them with lettuce and rice. Yuuum!

When we got back to the resort (HELLO WIFI!), we were given 2 hours to rest and enjoy the hotel amenities. We were called back to the lobby and headed to Bruce Lee’s hotel room for the Korean Noodle Cooking Demo. But that supposedly educational cooking lesson, we ended up having a great party with our tour guide and tour escorts!

We played these party games called Baskin Robbins (the game, not the ice cream), and something called Find the Spy? Haha! It was fun, childish, and awesome and our class was the last to leave the hotel.

I accidentally lost our room key though and had to pay 7,000 KRW (roughly less than $10). Boo. So that caps off my second day (and night) in the Land of the Morning Calm. Tomorrow, we’re heading off to SEOUL! Aaah, I can imagine the city lights, people and SHOPS already.

Sbarro

I was sick and feeling like crap these past couple days  so I couldn’t go online and update. But just last  Thursday, Cito took me on a dinner date at a nearby mall to cheer me up! But I guess that wasn’t such a good idea, huh? ‘Cause I got sick again the day after. 😦 But I still got to see and be with him though, and that’s worth it!! ❤

He bought me two books, The Serpent’s Shadow by Rick Riordan and That Kind of Guy by Mina Esguerra (local). I finished both in two days since I was bedridden and had to sleep for two days. These books kept my company!! Just look at the covers. They’re gorgeous!!! ❤ By the way, may I just say that Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors, AND HE HAS DONE IT AGAIN. Amazing conclusion to an epic series!!!!

So he treated me at Sbarro and I thought he was going to order our usual White Cheese/Cheese pizza which I love, simply because, HEY, IT’S CHEESE. But he surprised me by ordering a slice of Chicago White Deep Dish. Okay, if I wasn’t so sick and pathetic, I would’ve wolfed down this pizza in 3 minutes. I looooove everything cheese and tomato-y! Plus it’s got pineapples and big onion cuts which I loooove, especially on Adobo!! ❤

A dish we never ever! get tired of: Baked Ziti with Alfredo Sauce.  We order this pasta every time we eat here, simply because it’s so incredibly good!!! The cheese just melts in your mouth and warm bread you can scrape your plate with. Ha ha. Man, I get hungry just thinking about it! Craving for Italian food right now!! ❤

Too bad I only managed to eat a few bites of food due to the fact that my appetite’s gone bonkers and the food’s threatening to come out. 😦

I do look sick, don’t I? Still managed to smile because, to be honest, he makes me smile! He makes me feel alive and well, just the sight of him tingles my bones in a good way. Even when I’m sick, he still manages to turn my mood upside-down and make me deliriously happy! ❤

You do something to me that I can’t explain. <3

Spending a day with my boyfriend is really something to look forward to, and it never fails to make me smile and giddy with excitement! I don’t know why or how, but we’ve been together for more than two years and he’s still the only one that makes my heart flutter! As cheesy as that sounds, I’m being honest. Ha ha! 😀

We haven’t seen each other for a week, and I’m already missing him! You might think that I’m overly clingy or overreacting, but I actually can stand not seeing him for a month, even though I don’t want to. There’s a difference! C’mon, is it really a sin to miss somebody? 🙂

So today he surprised me by swinging by our house today! He gave me Red Velvet Cupcakes! Kill me, I forgot to take a picture. There goes my diet. 😦

Suddenly craving for milk tea, we decided to go to Moonleaf at Paseo de Sta. Rosa. 🙂

Hi baby! I’m sorry for always “cropping” you from the photos! I’m a lousy self-portrait photographer! 😦

The drink that never fails to make my taste buds happy! Hakka Milk Tea with Egg Pudding. I LIVE AND BREATHE EGG PUDDING!! ❤

Him and his Tiramisu Milk Tea with Egg Pudding. He says it reminds him of “hospitals”. He liked my Hakka more. I mean, who wouldn’t! 🙂

Every Moonleaf shop has thousands of post-it notes. Also, cute shelf! I want a shelf like that at my room. (Sorry for the glass. I’m seated outside the shop) 😦

His dimples make me swoon! Note: he’s not fully showing it in this picture.

Ciao!

Jack’s Loft

After that tiring shopping spree, my mom and I decided to dine at Jack’s Loft which was also connected to My Thai.

My gorgeous mom and I.

We were sooo hungry. I haven’t eaten a bite the whole day (and that was already 7 in the evening!) due to the fact that I woke up at 2 in the afternoon then went to the mall straight away. I wanted to order everything off the menu!

I was excited to share the Fishbowl Iced Tea with my mom! We were iced tea freaks and this “fishbowl” was cute!

We were losers because we weren’t able to finish the whole thing 😦

I was torn ordering between the Onion Rings and Jack’s Cheesy Fries! This was a good choice, though. The gravy was ah-may-zing! I had to order another batch because I just want to drink the whole thing.

My mom ordered a Shrimp Pad Thai from My Thai. Definitely yummy!

Philly Cheese Steak for me! My jaw ached from chewing though. The bread was kind of tough but the onions were delicious! I just love onions. 🙂

Will definitely be coming back 🙂

Ciao!
