Land of the Morning Calm – Day 2

I’m really, really scared to continue this post series about my travel to Korea because I’m afraid that I wouldn’t put it to justice. Words can never explain how truly wonderful the world (and God) is, the taste of fine and exotic cuisine in my mouth, how the freezing cold makes me want to run to the nearest fireplace. And all of it seems like an excellent dream, passing away through my fingers. If only I could relive each day, this time with the people who are special to me. 🙂

Enough about rambling, and on to the trip!

In my previous post, I left behind a cliffhanger pertaining to something about waking up. My roommate and I actually forgot to set our alarms one hour ahead (A BIG TRAVELLING NO NO!) so when my alarm woke us up at 6:00, it was actually 7 in the morning and check out starts at 8! We clearly don’t have time to shower, pack our things and eat breakfast.

So when we headed off to PhyongChang Phoenix Ski Resort, I could definitely eat a whole cow. But what we ate for lunch was definitely worth those long starving hours.

IMG_9801

This dish is called Osam Bulgogi or Cuttlefish and Pork Barbecue which we ate in a restaurant near the resort called Myeongseng.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m terribly hungry but THIS DISH IS THE BEST I’VE EVER TASTED MY WHOLE LIFE. Asked for another helping of rice (with seaweed!!!) and another.. and another..

IMG_9800

After lunch, we headed to the Phoenix Ski Resort, rented our BIG ASS ski boots that went up to my mid-calf and HEAVY skis that are longer than me. We actually had to WALK in those boots, ride an elevator while carrying those skis. I think I broke my back all of a sudden.

Friends and I looking adorbs in our ski gear!

IMG_9798

I look like a pig. Or a sausage. A sausage-wrapped pig.

IMG_9796

Well if you guys think that basketball, volleyball, or soccer is hard, wait ’til you guys get a shot at SKIING. Just attaching those damned shoes to the skis take a lot of work (and concentrated balance). Falling is definitely not optional, but a requirement. It’s definitely not fun if you don’t fall!

(By the way, I’m glad one of my friends, Jean Marie, didn’t suffer any major concussions after her, um, accident. 😦 I love you babe!)

IMG_9797

Yay, look at me! Skiing is actually fun if we push around and just glide but the real challenge was learning how to STOP. And climb the steep hill. But I did it and managed to get a few bruises along the way!

For dinner, we went to Hanwoo Village and ate Pork Barbecue. It’s actually a specialty because they were served raw and we were in charge of cooking them according to our preferences. The pork was marinating in a special sauce and we ate them with lettuce and rice. Yuuum!

When we got back to the resort (HELLO WIFI!), we were given 2 hours to rest and enjoy the hotel amenities. We were called back to the lobby and headed to Bruce Lee’s hotel room for the Korean Noodle Cooking Demo. But that supposedly educational cooking lesson, we ended up having a great party with our tour guide and tour escorts!

IMG_9793

We played these party games called Baskin Robbins (the game, not the ice cream), and something called Find the Spy? Haha! It was fun, childish, and awesome and our class was the last to leave the hotel.

I accidentally lost our room key though and had to pay 7,000 KRW (roughly less than $10). Boo. So that caps off my second day (and night) in the Land of the Morning Calm. Tomorrow, we’re heading off to SEOUL! Aaah, I can imagine the city lights, people and SHOPS already.

My baby boy turns into a big boy!

20121104-011401.jpg
Last October 3, my baby brother, Caehl (pronounced as Kyle) turned 7! We have an 11 year age gap, so he’s still very much young.
20121104-011623.jpg
So we had a Toy Story themed birthday party at the local McDonald’s. All of his classmates came, and every one of my family members are present!

My brother with his girl friends! What a ladies man!!

20121104-011430.jpg
My best friends and I were in charge of reception. It’s our job to write the name tags and make sure that they really are guests of the party!

Games were fun and endearing and it brought out the inner child in all of us. It was absolutely crazy, and even the parents joined in the fun.

There’s this game called “I Spy” which was really a people-versioned Bring Me game. So when the “Pinakamagandang Teenager” was called…

20121104-011606.jpg

Well, happy to say, that my little cousins love their Ate Cae so much..

20121104-015510.jpg

Another game involves a balloon between the legs, a chair, and a sore bum. Because my friends got called in the game, we had to play with poise..

Or whatever poise we could handle in this exciting but embarassing game.

20121104-011457.jpg
20121104-011510.jpg
Being the last in line, I was the one who’s got to pop the damn balloon.

20121104-011526.jpg
Well, needless to say that my team won! Girl power!

The cake and cupcakes, all made with buttercream fondant. Woody and Buzz Lightyear is still sitting in our fridge uneaten as we speak. Can you spot the difference/similarities between me and my brother’s name? 🙂

Look at all the fat and cholesterol. I could feel my thighs getting bigger just by looking at it.

20121104-011344.jpg
My family and I are thankful for having a blessing in the form of Caehl showered upon us. Being an only child may have its perks, but nothing can beat the love of a sibling. Blood truly is thicker than water. 🙂

Growing up

As I’m nearing my last year in college (I can’t believe I only have 3 semesters left!), I realized an important thing that I should have realized years ago.

It’s less important to have a ton of friends, and more important to have REAL ones.

College is one step closer to the real world. Setting my priorities straight has made me realize that life is too short and special to spend it with people that sucks the happiness out of me. Real friends love you even if you’re not very lovable, and those people are the most meaningful people you’re going to meet in life. 🙂

————

Spent my September 27 at SM North Edsa with the most amazing people!

Ate at Shakey’s, and of course, ordered the Monster Meal Deal because we were like, 11 or 12 at that time.

Kymie! She’s the most bangag girl I’ve ever met. During the morning, since our classes everyday start at 7 am, she would come in at around 7:20 and look like a ghost slapped the shit out of her. I’m sorry, but she’s anemic, and she still looks absolutely beautiful. 😀

Goofing off is one of the things I normally do, which makes me so happy that with them, I can show my true personality. In the past, I feel like I’m trying to fit in this world that I think I want to be in. But in reality, I really don’t fit in. God gave me these wonderful people that actually made up my own world, the one I truly belong to. 🙂

Went to eat dessert at Conti’s for the mouth-watering, heart-stopping, bad-ass mofo cake, Mango Bravo. Unffffff

Yes, I do look silly, huh? =)) People’s idea of beauty is so distorted in society that no one stops to look at the true idea of beauty. Beauty that comes from within is the most beautiful of all. 🙂 People fail to realize that physical beauty is not very important. I really really hate people who cover up or edit their faces in photos. So what if you look stupid in your photo?
YOU. ARE. BEAUTIFUL.

Riana! One of the craziest people I’ve ever met. She’s just this little ball of energy pent up inside her that seems to never go off, except when she’s in one of her moods.

Jeje pose! Ha ha! Good bye, for now!

I will really really try my best to update this rotting blog. There are so many blessings that I have received lately, and I can’t wait to share them with you guys! Hopefully, I could find the inspiration, and the time, to sit down and write. 🙂

Sbarro

I was sick and feeling like crap these past couple days  so I couldn’t go online and update. But just last  Thursday, Cito took me on a dinner date at a nearby mall to cheer me up! But I guess that wasn’t such a good idea, huh? ‘Cause I got sick again the day after. 😦 But I still got to see and be with him though, and that’s worth it!! ❤

He bought me two books, The Serpent’s Shadow by Rick Riordan and That Kind of Guy by Mina Esguerra (local). I finished both in two days since I was bedridden and had to sleep for two days. These books kept my company!! Just look at the covers. They’re gorgeous!!! ❤ By the way, may I just say that Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors, AND HE HAS DONE IT AGAIN. Amazing conclusion to an epic series!!!!

So he treated me at Sbarro and I thought he was going to order our usual White Cheese/Cheese pizza which I love, simply because, HEY, IT’S CHEESE. But he surprised me by ordering a slice of Chicago White Deep Dish. Okay, if I wasn’t so sick and pathetic, I would’ve wolfed down this pizza in 3 minutes. I looooove everything cheese and tomato-y! Plus it’s got pineapples and big onion cuts which I loooove, especially on Adobo!! ❤

A dish we never ever! get tired of: Baked Ziti with Alfredo Sauce.  We order this pasta every time we eat here, simply because it’s so incredibly good!!! The cheese just melts in your mouth and warm bread you can scrape your plate with. Ha ha. Man, I get hungry just thinking about it! Craving for Italian food right now!! ❤

Too bad I only managed to eat a few bites of food due to the fact that my appetite’s gone bonkers and the food’s threatening to come out. 😦

I do look sick, don’t I? Still managed to smile because, to be honest, he makes me smile! He makes me feel alive and well, just the sight of him tingles my bones in a good way. Even when I’m sick, he still manages to turn my mood upside-down and make me deliriously happy! ❤

Pitstop Coffee Shop

Before shopping for our groceries, we always eat somewhere special. My dad surprised us by saying he wanted to eat at Pitstop Coffee Shop, which is only a walking distance from our house. Since the food and the atmosphere are good there, we all agreed. It’s been months since we last went there, considering it’s only near.

Grabbed from Pitstop Coffee’s Facebook page.

From the logo itself, you’d already notice the restaurant/cafe’s theme. Yup, it’s all about cars! So if you’re a car junkie, going here would be a lot like heaven.

Starting at this point, I’m really really really sorry for the crappy photos. It seems like the camera wouldn’t cooperate that day. I hope you would all bear with me. 😦

The tables are made of glass inlaid with toy car collectibles for car enthusiasts. Every table has different models and designs! The shelves are filled to the brim with more cars and motorcycles! Wall decors are.. yep. You guessed it. Something to do with those vehicles we love polluting the world so much. 😉

Cute cutlery tray and coasters! Their presentation is INCREDIBLE. I swear, if I could only judge their restaurant just by presentation, they would pass with flying colors! Heck, they can even do latte art, as seen here, considering they’re only a small coffee shop.

Lemon and Raspberry iced teas with Über-cute stirrers!! Went crazy when I saw this. I wanted to take them home with me. 😦

Needed a caffeine fix, so I ordered a Toffeenut Mocha Frappe. It was too sweet though. Starbucks’ Toffeenut is better.

I got tired waiting for my food so I ordered a blueberry muffin from the cafe. One of the best muffins are found here, I swear. Their choco-chip is also to die for!!

Vigan Longganisa for meeeee. Yup, I guessed I was pretty hungry to order this. Didn’t get to finish it, though. 😦

My brother’s (Caehl) chicken fingers, fries and bread with pesto spread. One of the best pesto sandwich spread ever! Better than the ones in Cebu!!

Carbonara for daddy!

Pancakes (though it looks like a waffle, yes, they’re pancakes) with bacon and patty for mom!

Happy tummies!!! ❤ My brother was being a pirate because we’re trying to correct his “lazy eye”. 😦 Hey, look at the bright side, he looks 1000x cuter!! ❤

McCoy’s Brick Oven Pizza

For our second night in Palawan, we saw this restaurant that sells “brick oven pizzas” and it immediately caught our eye, not to mention our appetites.

Stepping inside the restaurant, the smell already got to us. It smells so amazing!! Fresh bread baking, and different kinds of herbs lingers in the air. We were so hungry that we could have ordered everything off the menu!! It was a pretty tiring day, after all.

Cute and cozy interiors!! Feels like hooome. ❤ Each table is different, by the way! 🙂

Even the plates are cute!! I swear I spazzed out when I saw these and immediately called dibs on the pink one with two flowers. Each one of us has a unique plate! ❤

Three pitchers of iced tea for the 12 of us! This was actually insufficient, and we had to order another pitcher.

Mojos for our appetizer! Perfectly crisp, though the gravy was forgettable. 🙂

Seafood Marinara! Too salty, blech. :p

Creamy Beef and Mushroom pasta!! This was heaven on a plate!!

What amazed me most was their pizzas!!! Their pizza sizes are THE SAME as Yellow Cab, but half the price! Their most expensive 18″ pizza is priced at P490 php only! Gaaah, can I live at Palawan now?

Hands. Down. The. Best. Pizza. I. Have. Ever. Eaten.
Their McCoy’s Special! Craaving for this! ❤

Had blueberry cheesecake for dessert, though we were too excited to eat to take a picture. 😦

Downsides: SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE. They just placed the plates of food on one side of the table, and just waited for us to move it to a free space. When we also asked for an additional pitcher of iced tea, there was no room on the table. She just stared at us while we moved the empty dishes that they were supposed to remove already. We had to call a waitress about 4 times before she got to our table. 😐

Last night in Palawan!

Balinsasayaw Chicken Grill and Restaurant

For our first night in Palawan, we were craving for fresh seafood! After asking the hotel’s caretaker, we went to Balinsasayaw Chicken Grill, just a few minutes away from our hotel.

My initial reaction upon entering the restaurant was amazement. The ambiance was so romantic! The restaurant was a huge fairy-lighted garden with nipa huts that ranges from small (two people pax) and large (it can house about 8 people). Since we had a large company (we were 12 in all), we settled for a large table instead of the cute nipa huts.

With Cito and Gold!

Look at my baby brother looking all adorable! That shirt he was wearing was one of my favorites! The baseball was exactly on top of his biiiiig tummy (which I think was the point of the design)! ❤

Shakes all around! The names of the shakes were actually pretty funny. There was Macorn, which was a combination of mango and corn. It’s weird, but good!

Their specialty shake – Balinsasayaw Shake.

Bird’s Nest soup, or Nido Soup. The green and red pieces there were actually bell peppers, not carrots and chives.

Two big bilaos which consisted of heaven on banana leaves! Seafood galore!!! There’s lumpia, grilled chicken, and liempo for non-seafood eaters (like my dad. Boooo!) and grilled squid, crab, and shrimp for the seafood lovers (like everyone else on the planet). Seafood is, and always will be, my ultimate weakness. Dieting was long forgotten after this has been served!!

Fresh fruit for dessert! 🙂

The whole crew with big, happy tummies! 🙂
