My favorite book quote so far. It’s from Colleen Hoover’s Point of Retreat, the sequel to her bestseller, Slammed. I don’t know why it struck me so much, but I just had to share it and hopefully, inspire people to pick it up and read too. (Or download, whatever floats your boat.)
Rick Riordan’s latest book, and the latest book in The Heroes of Olympus series, Mark of Athena, just came out.
It’s a funny story how I happened to buy it, really. Cito and I were strolling around the bookstore, just talking about random stuff while my baby brother browsed through the shelves. By habit, we always walk through some tables where they display the most prominent books that people buy. I was never really seeing anything, just skimming through some stuff, when suddenly, my eyes focused on the “Mark of Athena” part of the book. At first, I was like, “Oh, cool.” Then it finally sunk in, and I was like, “YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.”
So there I was, being a happy kid and all. I’m not going to write a review of the book, because we all know that I suck at reviews. What I’m going to write here, though, is a rant. A rant to Rick Riordan ASKING HIM WHY HE DID WHAT HE DID.
Of course, this didn’t have a happy ending. I knew that. Maybe at the back of my head, there’s someone whispering that this isn’t going to be happy. But I kept ignoring it until it hit me in the face.
The ending of the book can only be described in a series of GIFs (again) since they could only be the ones who can actually FEEL what I’m feeling.
At first I was so happy because Annabeth was being the usual smart cookie Annabeth and I had no idea what was going on, then everybody was screaming and I was like CUT IT CUT IT CUT IT
“We’re staying together. You’re not getting away from me. Not again.” – Percy
Then it finally sunk in.
… and I started feeling very sad.
And that sadness grew.
and grew some more
Until finally the dam broke and tears came out and I was bawling my eyes off while making dying whale noises and repeatedly hitting myself on the head with the book, attempting to bargain with the gods for their safe return.
And now, I’m just sitting here screaming WHY RICK RIORDAN WHY
Another year of waiting in agony while Percy and Annabeth rot in Tartarus HOW COULD YOU DO THIS RICK HUH RICK
I just read Rick Riordan’s blog where he unfolded the elusive Mark of Athena cover and posted it’s first chapter!!
Sigh, isn’t it just gorgeous?! I think that’s Jason, riding Tempest and wearing Camp Jupiter’s purple shirt. And that’s Percy, riding Blackjack, and wearing Camp Half-Blood’s orange shirt!!! But why are they fighting each other. They’re supposed to be fighting Gaia. 😦 I swear, Riordan’s books have the best covers. I can’t wait to delve into Annabeth’s POV!!
*Spoiler Alert for Insurgent, City of Lost Souls, and Pandemonium books*
Insurgent: Then the shouting begins.
City Of Lost Souls: I am coming.
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! How can you end it like this?! This is so cruel!!! * ugly sobbing*
Veronica Roth, Cassandra Clare, Lauren Oliver: *Evil laughter*
I seriously can’t move on with my life whenever a book ends in a cliffhanger. Dreading to read the last chapter? Yes, that’s my test for a good book.
“It is much wiser to view your love as a gift. Because that’s what love is – a gift; give it freely, for the sake of giving and not because you expect anything in return. And realize that the act of loving is in itself a gift. The fact that we can love and do love is the most amazing gift of all. And even if your love is not reciprocated, sent back to your doorstep like an unopened present, appreciate that you have within you the power, the ability, and the courage to love. And that in itself makes you truly special.”

The title of this post was taken from Simple Plan’s Summer Paradise, a really feel-good song, though the lyrics say otherwise. I’m currently on a hipster mood, downloading songs that are not too mainstream on YouTube (Ssh!). I actually discovered 20+ songs, some were recommended by my hipster of a boyfriend. But enough about me and my penchant for things geeky.
So as you can predict by now, my family and I always shop for groceries every Saturday. That would be considered as our “family day” instead of the usual Sunday (because we don’t go to Church, read about it here).
Here are some of my finds:
Totally spazzed out when I saw this! Perfect for cold nights!! I swear, it’s more comfortable than a bulky comforter. Though thinking about cold nights right now is like shooting the moon because of the scorching summer sun we’re currently experiencing.
Cutie nail cutter! I don’t know why, but my nails are super soft and sensitive so I can’t grow them long because they tend to chip and break. So this, along with it’s partner-in-crime, Mr. Nail File, are my nails’ best friends!
My new Candy Magazine School Planner! I had a lot of help with last year’s one, so it will surely help loads with this! It’s so adorable, and it’s from my favorite magazine! Candy is the best magazine for teens, in my opinion. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but because of this planner, I can’t wait for school!!
Meg Cabot is one of my favorite authors, and boy, am I glad to see this on National Bookstore’s shelves since I was looking for this in forever!! ❤
New Avengers shirt featuring Iron Man!! He’s easily my second favorite Avengers hero, and yes, it’s largely because of RDJ. ❤
Found these suuuper cute necklaces for only 30 php in National Bookstore of all places!!
New nail polish to experiment with and to add to my growing collection!
New things for my dorm! A floral plastic mug, pink plates, and a swirly apple green broom and dust pan! We love accessorizing and decorating our dorm with cute stuff!
And since we’re on the topic of awesome finds, here are pictures of my souvenirs from Palawan! Who knew people there can be so stylish?
Awesome bangles for only 100 php each! Red is my favorite color to accessorize with, and you can never go wrong with pearls!
Instantly fell in love with this floral hat the minute I laid my eyes on it. ❤
It’s more fun in Palawan, Philippines shirt! ❤
My favorite, “I explored Palawan” shirt! Palawan is very special because it was my first trip with my family! 🙂
Off to watch Dark Shadows with my parents!
I’m afraid I’m not being my usual bookworm self this summer, being broke and uninterested in the newly released books. I just finished Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, and I’m craving for more stories to read. Stories that are unique and unpredictable. Stories that can wrap around my heart, tear it to pieces, and stomp all over it in combat boots. Finally, I have found my answer: Wattpad.
Wattpad is a totally new form of collaborative entertainment that connects readers and writers across all genres of creative storytelling. Writers can freely come here to express themselves through their stories. Readers, such as myself, can come here to feed their urge for *new* stories to enjoy.
Here are some of my favorite stories and their descriptions (Be aware though, some stories are not yet finished. Authors upload by chapters.):
A student-teacher relationship story.
What would you do if you lost everything that ever mattered to you? When Phoebe Miller loses her family in a car crash, her answer is to simply close in on herself. She is too scared to get close to someone new, due to the fear of losing someone else important to her. Plagued by depression, harrowing nightmares and full of guilt, she pushes away the very people who may be able to help her through. Only one handsome and charming teacher is able to break down her wall of defences. But can their love survive, or is their forbidden relationship simply not meant to be?
Mollie Black recently was hired as a summer nanny for the famous designer Lacey Kingham. She’s thrilled about the job, until she realizes that she has to share the guest house with Lacey’s brother, Callen Grey, the hottest guy and biggest player on her college campus, who Mollie finds incredibly annoying and way too cocky for his own good. Once she starts getting to know the real Callen, can she stop herself from falling in love? Callen is annoyed because Mollie seems to be the only girl on the planet resistant to his charms, so he makes it his personal goal to get her to fall for him so he could break her heart at the end of the summer, but can he resist falling in love with her first and changing his player ways forever?
Isabel Marant is childhood best friends with Aaron Fox. He just happens to be the hottest movie star since Brad Pitt and Hollywood’s new Golden Boy. Now after eight months filming abroad he’s back and Isabel’s life is about to get a whole lot more complicated…
